An Herb for the Winter Months

Insomnia

Anorexia

Skin irritation, including herpes simplex

Available in tablets, capsules, tinctures, fluid extract, powdered extract and oil, I recommend products standardized for hyperforin and hypericin. Take 300 milligrams three times a day. As an antidepressant, it may take six to eight weeks to work. If you suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder, you may want to use St. John’s wort in conjunction with a light box or other type of bright-light therapy commonly used for SAD.

And Speaking of Teeth...

If you want to keep your wits about you later in life, take good care of your teeth now.And Speaking of Teeth... A study published in the October, 2008, issue of Psychosomatic Medicine found that older people with gum disease and poor dentition were more likely to be mentally impaired than seniors whose teeth and gums were in good shape. The difference could be due to inflammation stemming from gum disease that becomes systemic and affects brain function, said the British researchers who conducted the study. They analyzed data from the Third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey III.And Speaking of Teeth... The team looked at 5,138 adults aged 20 to 59 who had completed two tests of cognitive function, and another 1,555 adults aged 70 and older who took a different mental function test. After adjusting for age, they found links between worse performance on any of the three tests and poor oral health. In addition to the possibility that inflammation might be responsible, the researchers suggested that poor oral health could lead to poor diet resulting in nutritional deficiencies that could contribute to declining mental function.

Heartburn Tips - How to Reduce Your Stomach Pressure?

Heartburn Tips - How to Reduce Your Stomach Pressure?

Putting pressure on your stomach may push stomach juices into your esophagus, causing heartburn. Some ways to reduce heartburn include the following:

Avoid lying down for 2 to 3 hours after eating. When you are lying down, the contents of your stomach can push against the valve between the esophagus and stomach (lower esophageal sphincter, or LES). Sitting up allows gravity to help food and stomach juices from the esophagus drain back into your stomach.

Avoid eating large meals and snacks just before bedtime.

Avoid tight clothing over your stomach. Tight belts, waistbands, or panty hose may push against your stomach and make your heartburn worse.
